What is AME? AME stands for Aeromedical Examiner. This a doctor who has been training and passed examinations in Aviation Medicine and can therefore issue cabin crew medical certificates

What is EASA? EASA stands for European Union Air Safety Agency. They set the standards for European registered airlines like Ryanair and SAS Connect

What is UK CAA? UK CAA is the UK Civil Aviation Authority and sets the standards for UK registered airlines.

 

Will I get my certificate on the day? Yes as long as you have provided all the documents and have passed the medical assessment.

How long does my certificate last for? Up to 60 months ( 5 years) although the time can be reduced if further reports are needed within this time period to ensure compliance with the regulations.

Do I need to be fasted for the medical check? No, but please ensure you are ready to give a urine sample when you attend

What is a Chaperone? A chaperone is an impartial observer present during an intimate examination of a patient. Our staff are trained as chaperones and you can request one if you wish. 

I don't wear glasses, do I need to bring in an eye test? No, but your vision should be good enough not to wear glasses for driving as a minimum.

 

I wear glasses/ contact lens do I need a new eye test? Your vision with your glasses/ contacts should be good enough to see when driving. Please bring / wear your glasses when you attend your appointment.

 

What is a "Patient Summary'? This a summary of your health and should include your details, significant current and  past issues/operations, medications, allergies and other relevant medical details.  You can obtain this for free from your GP or if you have access via the NHS app. This not a summary care record which only details medications and allergies. Screenshots of your GP records are also not accepted sadly as there are no identifiers on them.

 

Can I still attend the appointment without my patient summary?  Yes you can however, we will only issue the certificate once we confirm your medical history detailed on your patient summary. 

 

I live abroad and don't have a NHS GP what should I do? Obtain a letter stating you don't have any underlying issues which needs to be written in English. 

 

Do I need to provide a patient summary if the medical is a renewal? Ideally yes, but we would need as a minimum evidence of your current medical certificate or certificate of competence.

 

Are there any charges if I need to send reports after the medical?  Yes we charge an admin fee for the doctors time to review the reports and process the medical. The fee is also for the team to visit the post office and to pay for the secure postage.

 

If I have an ongoing medical issue should I bring reports with me? Yes, as a minimum you should bring a report showing your current medical condition has been stable for at least 3 months.

 

Can I be issued a medical certificate if I have colour deficiency? Yes - once you have passed your Safety and Evacuation and Procedures (SEP) course, we can issue you with a medical certificate.

 

Will I need an ECG? Only if you have increased risk for heart disease e.g. being over 40 years old, smoking, elevated cholesterol, significantly elevated weight, Diabetes, previous heart conditions, High Blood Pressure.......

 

Can I be issued a medical certificate if I am short? Yes as long as you are in proportion and are able to act safely as a cabin crew member. Some airlines however have a height restriction and so we would advise to check with your airline.

 

I have taken illicit drugs in the past, can I still be issued a medical certificate? Only if you have evidence of several negative drug/ alcohol tests and have a supporting recent report from a psychiatrist. 

 

Is my urine sample checked for Drugs and Alcohol- In general no, it is tested for Blood, Glucose and Protein. However some airlines may require a drug/alcohol test.

 

Is my urine test checked for pregnancy? - No 

 

I have an allergic reaction when I eat some types of foods but can handle and touch these foods without a reaction. Can I be issued a medical certificate? In general yes but we would need supporting letters from your specialist / treating doctors.
